Dani Pedrosa won the German MotoGP at the Sachsenring on Sunday July 18th. Honda rider Pedrosa cut the gap at the top of the rider standings to 47 points by finishing ahead of his compatriot Jorge Lorenzo.
But the big news was Valentino Rossi’s return from injury, finishing an excellent 4th just six weeks after suffering a broken leg. He duelled with Casey Stoner for third place, swapping places a number of times before the Australian edged him out on the final lap.
The red flag was waved on lap 9 as three riders were eliminated following a nasty crash which left De Puniet with a fractured left tibia and fibula. A 30 minute break followed, effectively reducing the race by one-third distance.
